The Pennsylvania YouthBuild Coalition celebrated its 2nd Annual YouthBuild Leadership Day, in Harrisburg, on May 8, 2019. YouthBuild Programs from the Pennsylvania Region included: YouthBuild Allentown, Housing Association & Development Corporation; YouthBuild Philadelphia, Philadelphia Youth for Change Carter School; YouthBuild Pittsburgh, Garfield Jubilee Association, Inc.; and YouthBuild York, Crispus Attucks YouthBuild Charter School. Programs gathered from various areas of Pennsylvania to advocate for the importance of the YouthBuild Programs and to voice how the programs have impacted their lives. YouthBuild programs provide educational opportunities and job training for low-income, young men and women, 16 to 24 years of age who did not complete high school or are not regularly engaged in the workforce. It also provides an opportunity for young people to assist in building and renovating homes for low-income and homeless individuals, and most importantly, providing a platform for youth to voice their concerns and enhance their leadership skills, so they can make critical changes in their communities and their lives.
The President of the Coalition, Mrs. Joann Monroe, and Vice President, Ms. Jacquie Martino-Miller, welcomed Special Guest, U.S. Senator Robert Casey and Joe Ostrich, from U.S. Congressman Scott Perry’s Office. Other State Representatives that were in attendance included: Carol Hill-Evans, Ed Gainey, James Roebuck, Jr. and Peter Schweyer. YouthBuild students were able to meet staff and students from all programs. A great time was had by all.
